What Is World Bible School? (WBS)

 

"Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation.  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved."  (Mark 16:15-16a)

 

Greetings church family,

It gives me great pleasure to announce the official start of a WBS program at Walnut church of Christ.  This will not be the first WBS program at Walnut, but for many of you it will provide the opportunity to participate in a church evangelistic program in a more active role.

 

WBS is an evangelistic tool that uses correspondence courses to share Jesus with the world's lost by motivating and equipping a global network of Christians (like you) to use interactive Bible studies effectively.  The elders have given us a way to participate in the great commission as a church by meeting one night a week for one hour to reach souls who are requesting to know about Jesus and his message of love and redemption.  In our busy schedules, do you often wonder when you will be able to get around to doing the Lord's work in teaching the lost and bearing fruit for God and Christ?  Well, here is a great opportunity.

 

We will soon have in our possession a list of names (lost souls) from the U.S., U.K., Africa, and India.  These are precious (lost) souls who are dying every day by the thousands, that we can reach for Christ right now.

 

Jeff Bone and I have volunteered to be your WBS coordinators at Walnut.  What we need next are WBS teachers.  This is where you come in.  We need teachers who will be willing to take 5-20 students from around the world.  These are truth-seekers (students) who desire to study God's word through WBS correspondence courses.  You will be responsible for attending class one hour a week on Wednesday nights, where you will be assigned a list of potential truth-seekers (students).  You will label the addresses on the WBS correspondence courses and turn them in for shipping.  When your students return their lessons, you will be responsible for grading (answer sheets are provided) their lessons and preparing the next set of correspondence lessons for mailing.  It's pretty much like "pen-pals."  When your truth-seeker (student) becomes interested in being baptized, we will put them in contact with the Christian missionary and/or preacher in their location.

 

The first class is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, February 15th, at 7:00 PM.  Watch the bulletin and announcements for updates.

The sign-up list(s) are located on the tables in the foyer.  I am working on a central location for a WBS bulletin board and table for WBS handouts.  This location will be announced when it is set up.

 

This work will require a patient heart.  Many will not respond favorably.  Many will drop out before completing the course, but some will obey the gospel, be baptized and serve in a local church of Christ.

 

Finally, if you cannot participate, please pray for the success of this work.  We are all of the belief that our God is a God who hears and answers prayer.  Pray that we will reap a bountiful harvest and that the evangelistic spirit of the church will thrive.

 

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field."  (Luke 10:2)
